sorry about your uncle. we are in the unfortunate position, industry-wide, of having a large gap between retiring engineers, and those entering the field. this means there's a serious knowledge/ experience gap about to happen, and that's not good for smooth operations, you know? in addition, in some areas, we are in danger of re-inventing the wheel, since those areas have been ignored too much to be commercially viable for so long that the guys who did a lot of the work are literally dying off. it's a sad thing.
