I have posted about my Mom coming to live with us. We are at week two home from the extended care facility. First days I stayed at her apt(no photoshop and slowass computer which I worked on to make faster yea) because we hadn't actually figured out what we were doing yet.
The Plan ( you know about mice and men right?) was for me to stay with her while the grumpy guy cleared the kid out of the two bedrooms downstairs and fixed a master suite for us remodeling the bathroom etc and move Mom to our room and remaining kid in those rooms to our office.
Time table about two weeks. Riiiight.
I guess the grumpy guy got enough of his own( or teenage daughter's ) cooking and changed that plan after wait for.... it three days! So by Sunday after her discharge she's ensconced in our office, our office stuff (except computers and chairs) are in the shed, computers are on the kitchen table and grumpy guy starts to work on downstairs this weekend.
3:30 Dr appointment with Spinal Institute (referred by primary care phy that "doesn't do pain management anymore). What a parade , my oldest daughter was a CMA and she goes to these appointments to translate( I now see why she works for the phone company)Doctors absolutely hate her.
Anyway we get to the appointment we're there about pain management for her spinal stenosis and her shoulder that had been bothering her for about three or four weeks at the care place. The pt staff called the Dr that is on staff there but I can't figure out if he ever saw her cuz I got about four differing stories.(They hate my daughter too).
So we get there and the Doctor and my Mom play questions and crooked answers for a while ( we let them do that because if we start answering for her right away they give us really dirty looks)
and he decides to order a MRI and xrays on her shoulder see you in a week after MRI appointment, gives us a script for a lower dose pain med than she's on and send us on our merry way down stairs for xrays. It's now 4:15pm We wait till about 4:45 and the tech comes to get us, he can;t get her out of her wheelchair so tries to take the films in it.Gives up and we get her on the table meanwhile my daughter( who has taken off work) is upstairs trying to figure out why he lowered her pain meds that aren't working well enough as it is.
Everyone has finally migrated downstairs to the Imaging place and I mean everyone, because my oldest son had to take her in his itty bitty suv, cuz there is no way she's getting in my troop transport and my daughter's bf and my youngest son for muscle. Great.
Anyway
supasonica comes in to help hold her on the stool for the xrays. We hear the tech say SHIT! We look at each other because earlier he asked if either of us were pregnant and we both laughed hysterically for different reasons.
He calls upstair to the office we just came from and comes out to tell us we need to take her to the ER, because her shoulder is dislocated. So we wait another 45 mins for them to develope the xrays pile everyone into three cars and go to the ER xrays in hand.
We wait some more there after check in and wait somemore. By about 6PM we are in an exam room where we wait some more and then a DR comes in and ( we let her play the game a little) she orders more xrays ! oookaaay. So we wait for the techs to come, they shoot my mom up with morphine and order a ultrasound as well. All of a sudden about 7pm the room is full of techs, an IV person , two different transporters, one from ultrasound one from xray. Bartering how to get this all done, they say we'll be about 45 min or an hour why don't you go find something to eat. They guys had all come to my house and pizza and calazone ordered so yeah we came home and ate.
8:45 we're back in ER mom's flying happily and we are so punchy we're just giggling along.
Lady Doc arrives back in,they've decided to call in an orthopedist to put her shoulder back in under general sedation. They can't get a OR room for at least two hours now because car crash victims came. Okay, everyone has gone home pretty much, stepgrandson had been with us since about 5pm and he'd been on a fieldtrip and was tired. He's five and needed to be in bed anyway.
I took my daughter home about 11pm she had to work today, and got back by about 11:30. By this time I'm wondering what sort of sadistic jerk orders the chairs they put in the ER exam rooms for family to sit in and plotting revenge.
12AM ortho guy gets there plays the game a little and fiddles around with my Moms fingers and toes, keeps asking how long this and when that, finally he picks up the original xrays we brought in and looks through them and say "ah". Okay it's almost 1AM I don't have much left because I was up at 6:30 that morning or the morning before. No one can tell us if she is staying the night going home after whatever. So he says"ah" and then says, I don't think if I put this back in it will stay, it has worn a groove, it's probably been out for months. I guess with all the other problems it finally came to the forefront when her spinal pain had been addressed.
Anyway they tried to put it back, but it wouldn't stay, they immobilized her her arm and kept her over night. I'll pick her up sometime today. At least for the last part they sent me someplace with comfy chairs, I got a snack put my poor aching legs up and read a few chapters of Fool's Moon of the Dresden Files series. The procedure took less time than anything that day.
The thing that really gets me? She saw three Drs this week, has been in phy therapy for 2 months and an xray tech found out what's wrong. If the ER Dr had called the orhto Dr in within two hours after we got there she could have come home last night. He, the recovery and OR staff couldn't believe how long we'd been there.
I got home about 3AM I am beat.
I feel sorta better somehow writing this and getting it off my chest. that way I won't be snarky to anyone over pent up frustration.
Now I'm gonna go post the whole two TS icons I made this week at
jb_daily and couldn't upload because of LJ issues.
Thanks for listening.....
