A couple of things. the IRS will be involved and after Five years they can decide we have to give up our employer provided insurance to buy theirs, if they decide it doesn't meet some undetermined (as yet) criteria. Insurance will be required. If you opt out of the three (I think it was three; Basic, Enhanced and Premium) proposed plans you would be charged 2.5% of your adjusted gross income and placed on what seems to be a Medicaid plan.(My oldest daughter went through that for a while and was more than happy to get her employer provided insurance even if she did have to pay out for it) From the summary III. SHARED RESPONSIBILITY The bill creates shared responsibility among individuals, employers and government to ensure that all Americans have affordable coverage of essential health benefits. Individual responsibility. Except in cases of hardship, once market reforms and affordability credits are in effect, individuals will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining health insurance coverage. Those who choose to not obtain coverage will pay a penalty of 2.5 percent of modified adjusted gross income above a specified level. Doesn't define hardship or specified level. The main reason for reading this is I am getting very tired of people telling me what they think it is or isn't. After reading it I don't think the people who are against it are mean spirited, selfish or evil nor do I think the people for it are saintly, unselfish and good. I think people really need to take a good long look at this, the cost and what it may mean in the future. The sections in the one I linked to will highlight making them a little easier to read and the comments are both dumb and enlightening. I can see how some things can be read into the wording that could be quite disturbing. After reading it I can see what it is not, it does not seem to be a socialized medicine plan or a universal health care package, you will have to buy insurance, pick a plan you can afford and pay the premiums ),only now you will have little choice as to what sort of plan you may get,one that may not get you vision or dental. I really do need to read it again, but all the addendum, add- ons and the cost numbers seem so staggeringly unreal to the point that this bill also repeals the Balanced Budget Act. It would seem to me that the paperwork alone(it also repeals some sort of paperwork reduction act in there somewhere I can't find it now) will take years to get to the point of anyone even knowing what to fill out. I am going to read through it again after I get rid of the headache this caused the first time to see if I can understand it better. I would suggest everyone read through this and really look at what all has been put in it. Forget the buzz words the liberals and conservatives are using and find the truth somewhere in the middle.
