The weather has been beautiful so far this summer (last year about six days of sun). But there is always a drawback isn't there. A 20,000acre forest fire

Very bad for people with lung conditions and those who work outside.
We need rain apparently ....

The fire is quite a distance from here, we just get the smoke and burning teary eyes.
I really hate to think of the damage over there though...

Wish I could send you some of our daily afternoon thunderstorms to help out. That is some lovely country - or it was when we lived there in the late 60's lived in the Lake Spenard area in 68-69 and it was great.

Very Cool. We live off Lake Otis and Tudor if you remember where that is.

I miss The Campbell Creek Classic, living here at that time you probably know what that is, it was a big deal then...
Anchorage has really changed a lot since the late '60 some good some bad. Like everywhere I guess.

rain would be good, lots of rain....

I bet it has changed tremendously, I was in the 7th grade went to Romig Jr. High, (not even sure if that is how it was spelled?) but I don't remember the Campbell Creek Classic. Sorry - I remember camping near Eagle River and going to the state fair in Palmer oh the good old days.

We are in a bit of a drought here, too. But we had a thundershower this morning and I saw three squirrels giving each other baths I swear! They sat in the rain and groomed like mad, themselves and each other! I have never seen that kind of behavior in squirrels and I am a squirrel watcher! I am thinking one or two may have been newly adult because one was bigger and doing most of the fussing and grooming. It was verily like primate behavior!

Gotta love those squirrels. They run along our back fence and tease the dog next door.

I doubt they'll be able to put it out, maybe contain it soon till it rains. Hopefully it won't burn all summer, they have before.

It's getting very, very dry here in Arizona, so we're all getting nervous about fires too. I have asthma, so it's always hard on me. :( I hope we all get rain and lots of it.

I just talked to a friend who lost her cabin to the fire. Plus, it sounds like my aunt and uncle's cabin might be in danger as well. I hope it rains soon!

Sorry to hear that. I was afraid it was getting to that. Supposed to rain, hope it's enough.

This has been the strangest spring here in Southern Kentucky and Northern Tennessee. We had warm weather way too soon, then a hard freeze for several days that killed off the leaves for many trees, the Oaks and Hickorys included. It was so weird to see the dead, limp, black-green leaves hanging on the trees. For over a month, nobody was sure if the tree would make new leaves;the last time the old-timers can tell about a freeze like that, it was in the neighborhood of 120 years ago, and lots of trees died. Thankfully, at least 90 percent made new leaves but the fruit crops are going to be bad and we don't know how much the trees have been weakened. Now we are in a drought, some areas are in a severe drought, and since the tree's leaves were killed off, the undergrowth also was effected and became way too dry. I live in the woods here in Southern Kentucky and we are concerned about fires starting also.
I hope the fire in your area is able to be contained.
Laurie

Probably won't get contained at this point. The only thing to do is try and save houses as the fires move through.
Still smells a little smoky but not nearly as bad as yesterday morning.
Another summer of a pink and hazy sun.
Although, it's overcast(I think) can't see the mountains.
Hope all that need it get rain soon and those that are floating away dry up some.
