Help Me F-list You're my Only Hope

Because "T" aka the grumpy guy decided he'd like my monitor for his other computer (one for gaming one for business) he surprised me with a shiny new 19" wide screen. It is lovely and shiny and a little bigger than 17" flat screen he pinched from me. You all look beautiful, but a little stretched sideways if you know what I mean. He said I'd get used to it, but Photoshop is also stretched. This doesn't mean much to a gamer, wider is better, but does it affect graphics? Squares are rectangles!
Do any of you make icons on a widescreen? Are there setting to change in there?Does any of this matter?
I guess till I get used to it I'll be checking every icon on the laptop to make sure it doesn't look funny...
any ideas?

ETA Screw it. It's 25 pixels. I'm going swimming....

Anything more than 1280X1024 stretches off the screen and can't be reoriented.
I think it's probably in there somewhere just gotta find it. So frustrating because the time I have today for iconning is gonna be used to play around with this.
Oh well back to the drivers etc.
Just looking at it it doesn't seem stretched but when you really look the icons are a little rectangular. The field seems square though.
It doesn't bother me except in PS when I pull a crop and it turns out slightly rectangular instead of square. Wouldn't have even noticed it if I didn't have my crop tool set at 100x100.
Just being picky I'm told.

He may well end up with it. I'll just trade this one for his 19" It is a beautiful monitor with a stunning picture. He is not quite as visual as I am about some things. We each have our strengths and weaknesses. Mine seems to be figuring out this thing.lol
I think he wants me to as well instead of turning to him every time I hit a glitch.
Heading to the manufacturers site to see what I can find there.
I think I may have found the problem...
